The coaching search for the Raiders has been a long mysterious process with mysterious names popping up seemingly out of nowhere. Dennis Allen as head coach was a somewhat unexpected move and his staff is shaping up much the same way. Or at least the hiring of Greg Knapp as offensive coordinator.

At Dennis Allen's press conference on Monday to announce him as the Raiders' new head coach, he emphasized discipline as a big part of his philosophy. The elephant in the room was the subject of Rolando McClain -- until someone stepped up and asked about him.

The moment Dennis Allen was hired as the Raiders' head coach, the questions surfaced as to whether he would be hiring a defensive coordinator or calling the plays himself. Well, in his Monday press conference, he gave us a straight answer.

After the formalities and the "Greatness of the Raiders" intros were out of the way, it was time to get down the proverbial brass tacks. Namely, how close is this Raider team to being a contender, and what needs to be done to make that happen? The Raiders looked to be on their way two seasons ago but fell flat last season. Dennis Allen believes they are on the cusp... with a couple tweaks.

He is firmly in the tradition of the Raiders hiring upstart, firey young head coaches. In fact, he is replacing one in Hue Jackson. And on Monday, we got to meet Allen for the first time since he signed his four year deal to become the Raiders' next head coach.
