According to Raiders beat writer Vittorio Tafur, the Raiders will be having free agent CB Tracy Porter in for a visit "in the next couple of days."
The Raiders have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Porter since it's been known that he would not be retained by the Saints. This is due, in part, to the team's need at that position and because the Raiders' head coach Dennis Allen was the secondary coach for the Saints during their Super Bowl run and coached Porter at that time.
Porter plays primarily at right corner back or in the slot. He's played primarily in the slot in his career with the Saints.
Porter is young - only 25 - and, as the Raiders appear to like under the new regime, still has good size at 5'11" and 186 lbs.
Porter has not generated much interest during free market, perhaps surprisingly. There is a possibility that he was involved with the bounty scandal that involved 22 Saints Defenders and if so there is a possibility he will be punished in some way.
Still, he is a young and talented player and it's likely that if a team wants to secure his services they will be able to work beyond that possible suspension.

The news is Shawntae Spencer has just signed with the Raiders. It would be hard to imagine Tracy Porter being hired by the Raiders now.
I would prefer Porter because of his youth and think he has better upside, but Spencer definitely has a couple more decent seasons left in him and if he has signed at a decent price will still be a great pickup. Now onto some LB's please!
@nilbymouth Yeah, let's hope were done with the secondary, lets focus on LB nd NT
@Black_Nightmare @nilbymouth If Carlisle is kept as a starter we surely need a solid RT if we want some continuity on that side! Big Barks? Perhaps! He did improve, but i really don't see him as a great fit in the ZBS as he is not really that nimble and fast on his feet, a bit of a slouch actually.. Hopefully he can learn and contribute if he is to be the starter!
@nilbymouth I bet arksdale will emerge. He's benn known for being a great talent with a terrible work ethic, but I don't see him being lazy with the army-like discipline Dennis Allen will use.
Either way I think the interior of our line will look better than with Satele. Hopefully Campbell, Barksdale or a late round McKenzie special can have claim the RT spot and this OL should be looking pretty decent.
@nilbymouth Yeah, I've heard the same... I never watched him playing Center, but as long as he can do the job, I'm eager to see what happens there.
Or Brisiel at center? I believe he has experience at Center also.
@nilbymouth Carlisle is back? Seriously? That means probably moving Brisiel to LG, keep Carlisle at RG and moving the Wiz Kid to Center. Sounds good to me
Yep he's definitely signed. On the Raiders website. As with Carlisle being re-signed.
Oh sweet Baby Jesus... why???? Why should Peyton Manning decide to play for the Ponies????? The horror... THE HORROR!!!!!!
I really like Tracy Porter, and if he's coming it may mean Shawntae Spencer didn't show a lot. Tracy would mean the Raiders will have a lot of zone coverage, but bartell also excells at Man coverage so this would be really interesting to see.
Also interesting to hear that we will be bringing in Joel Dreesen, TE, from the texans for a visit - pretty good runblocker who knows the ZBS scheme we will implement! Could be a decent addition if he is cheap, but it could easily mean that either Myers or Gordon will have to go as they also primarily excell in the blocking! Hope Gordon stays, he is like an extra lineman when in, exceptionally strong, intense blocked and has a mean streak about him - good potential if he can develop further!
I like Dreesen. He showed great flashes as a receiver last year and at a good price I think he could be a real solid pickup.
@nilbymouth He certainly has the veteran prescence we could use at the position, especially after we lost Boss! If he is not expensive i'd like to see him in as well!
Not that this has anything to do with us and is off topic a bit, but I am really surprised Mike Wallace hasn't been given an offer from a team with a late first round pick. A first round selection for as sure of a receiver as you are going to get is a small price to pay. I expected the 49ers, Ravens, Bengals and Patriots just to name a few to go after him. Especially the Bengals and Ravens as they will be taking one of the biggest weapons from a division rival.
Also the contract Flynn got was a lot less than I expected. Could be a very good investment for the Seahawks.
@nilbymouth The thing with Wallace is the money. He's a real deep threat, so he will need a big offer to go anywhere.
Patriots seemed the best suitor to me since they have 2 first round picks this year, but since they signed Brandon Lloyd they aren't desperated anymore. Now, Bengals and Ravens already have big threats in A.J. Green and Torrey Smith, so they don't actually need to break the bank for a guy like Wallace.
Manning could pick whatever he wanted, and choosing Denver no doubt requried for certain things to happen on the squad! Manning is interested in getting another ring, and while SF seemed to have the most SB ready team, he still chose Denver who has a decent team that lacks a lot - this to me says that they intend to use their cap and make it a contending team per agreement with Manning!
Trading TimBow is something they will consider (or keep him to learn under a future Hall of Famer), and they will make a lot of signings in the near future i will suspect!
Thomas and Decker are solid WRs, but they still need to add one! .. I don't think they will use their 1 rd pick, but they will not find a better WR than Wallace, so it might still be an option!
It is scary to follow what happens with them now, as they will no doubt be the favourites in the division going forward if they get a couple of key needs! Will be interesting to see what happens when we meet them in the first game at O.Co..
Broncos rumored to be signing Brandon Stokley and Jeff Saturday. Also Dallas Clark, Jacob Tamme and Joesph Addai are all possible targets now too. If Saturday is signed the Broncos could cut J.D. Walton who is a good young interior lineman I would like to see us swipe up. if he is cut of course!
@nilbymouth Yeah, makes no sense to me either - could be that it is still in the works though! If 49'ers get Manning they could be interested in bringing in Wallace to give them a unique O.. Would be a scary offense! Baltimore MUST be interested as well, but time will tell! If he stays it makes no sense at all!
very nice... Porter and Bartell would solidify things... sprinkling in everyone else...
i still want to see some linebackers come for a visit... reggie must have a gameplan to snag one, right? or does he expect to pick a SURE THING in the 4th round or even later... like UDFA ? i hope he's not depending on that...
still, keep up the good work... don't let Porter leave!!
I would really like to see Porter signed too but I don't want to see him overpaid (although I am sure McKenzie won't be doing that).
As for LB's, there are still so many options around that seem to be receiving very little or no attention. Guys who I expected to have been swiped up by now like Larry Grant, Manny Lawson, LeRoy Hill, Rocky McIntosh and Erin Henderson (who seems to be getting frustrated about his lack of interest, even tweeting "What's crazy is I'm not even asking for big money. All I want is respectable money for what I'm asked to do."). As well as others like Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Jameel McClain. I think we will be able to get one or two of these guys pretty cheaply soon if they continue to get little attention.
@nilbymouth Wasn't Grant tendered for a 7th or something (so they have right of first refusal)? Erin Henderson would be great! Don't get the lack of interest, could be that LB is the top priority the coming week! I'd love to get Mcclain - he has the mentality and work ethic to be a great guy for us! Still think Tulloch could be in our pricerange, so i'm keeping my hopes for him! But no matter which way it goes, a lot of prospects available! Mays from the Ponies could be an option as well - a two down thumper like McClain from Ravens, but both can offer a lot in situational and rotational duties even if not on the field for obvious passing downs!
@Harder2000 We will have to try some new guys, that's a fact. I think Travis Goethel will have his chance to prove himself, I think som UDFA will come for depth and a chance to compete, and I'm pretty sure we will try Shaugnessy as OLB. That said, there are some pretty good guys ot there, and I wouldn't be surprised if Reggie birngs some guy like London Fletcher or some other guy like that, an underrated guy who will come for the right price. Pretty much like he did with Bartell
@Black_Nightmare Think so too - we will loose a bidding war, so if we can get someone on the free market that is probably where we're headed! Grant is good though, no doubt there!
@Harder2000 @nilbymouth Yeah, he is RFA and he got an original round tender. Weo would have to give up our 6th round pick to get him, but there is no way that is a good option. Even if the niners do sign Peyton, they have no Cap issues, so they will be able to match any reasonable offer we make. If we indeed overpay the guy then SF will let him go, but we will have an overpayed LB and just one draft pick. That's an awful situation
@nilbymouth He is definately worth a 7th (or a 6th since we don't have a 7th), but they still have right of first refusal and can match our offer, so the price could increase a bit! Still a good option though! However, there is still a lot of prospects out there, so Reggie must be working on something with the lack of LB on our team!! Definately - Bring in McClain!
@DARKKUSH I frem the same way - don't let him leave Reggie! With Porter and Bartel on board with DVD and Checkwa we should be able to focus on other areas; especially LB! The market has been slow, and we need several brought in! Should not expect low rd draft picks and UDFAs to come in and be solid starters out the gate, even with great potential they will need to work their way into the NFL, there's a reason for a low rd grade, so they can't be depended upon to come in and save a season right away! Imo we news to work FA LB market as well as the draft for depth and competition, looking forward to see what type of LBs we will target!
@Harder2000 @DARKKUSH Most likely Reggie's taking his time to pick a LB because some of the guys out there are asking fore some big bucks. None of them are elite (not even Tulloch), so he might be wanting to see them accepting lower pay checks and it takes a little time and patience for thos players to lower their expectations.
@Black_Nightmare Willis imo is best in the league, and Ray Lewis may be the best leader of any defense although his physical attributes are declining due to age!
But is still see Tulloch and especially Lofton right after those players! Lofton was really the key on the Atlanta D, and he is everything i seek in a Elite LB that is among the very best in the league!
But i agree, their price tags might be larger than what we can afford for either at this point! The reason i really would like one of them signed, is that i see them as a center piece that can be the basis of the Defense going forward! Like Willis and Lewis is it for their teams - a player to build around!
I'm not so sure about Anderson though - seems like a really scheme specific type player to me! But naturally, if Allen and Tarver can use him then go for it! We need to add OLBs as we really lack in that department!
@Harder2000 @DARKKUSH Ok, don't misunderstand me. They are both great players, but my definition of an elite LB right now is Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis, Terrel Suggs and the 2010 version of Clay Matthews. I like them both, I just can't see us paying them what they want. I like Mark Anderson a lot too, and I expect him to be way cheaper than Kamerion Wimbley was. The thing is they need to come for less money or we won't do it.
@Black_Nightmare I think you're right - waiting for the price to drop, which is also the case for the other signings and visits!
... But i must say that i don't agree that neither Tulloch or Lofton are elite! Imo both are elite ILBs and among the very best in the league! I think Lofton is the better prospect and the bigger difference maker, but both offers a physical prescence in the middle and if you take them out the defense is much worse off!
Atlanta's D without Lofton? That's just horrible!
And Tulloch was a one man army for the Titans (160+ tackles if i remember correctly) and he was great for the Lions - without him they would have had much larger issues with the run that they had imo!
But hope some of the prices fall soon enough for us to get in it, excited about who we will get!
