I posted this on the last note already, but I'm reposting it here so everybody get the news:
So, everybody's on board now. Last coach missing was Defensive Line Coach and Terrell Williams is coming from Texas A&M to fill the hole. He's been working last two years with the Aggies. They run a 3-4 defense, so it all points we will have one too. They had a pretty good run defense averaging 3.5 yards per carry, but only 2.5 at home. Aleen must know this fellow since he was an Aggie himself, and it's not strange he's calling him up. I like all these young coaches at Oakland. Maybe it's a big bet, but I'm sure this team knows nothing but betting big to win. Have a nice offseason guys!!!!
I am actually really liking our defensive coaches... I thnk the hire have been really positive! From a defensive HC, young and hungry DC. The position coaches pretty much all have superb experience. I expect us to be so so so much better on the defensive side of the ball...
Offence - question marks question marks questions marks. I really have no idea what to think.
I just hope CP, Dmac, DHB, Ford, Moore, Reece , Boss & the OL all stay healthy because as players they are as good as any other team in the AFC West and probably can look after games themselves.
@dondiraider DL coach will be interesting! Waufle, highly regarded as one of the best 4-3 DL coaches, was allowed to leave - will the new coach be known for his 3-4 or 4-3 lines? Looking forward to see what we'll get!
@dondiraider Ended up being Williams i guess.
Personally i don't know too much about him, but he has fine college merits, some of the other guys know and like him, and he is a young coach who is moving up fast!
I like the young coaching squad actually, now let's just hope they can demand the players respect (despite their age and lack of experience), that they can be the authoritys we need, and that they will bring the new age of football to the Raiders so the coming era will be our return to glory!
@Harder2000 I hear the name Tim Krumrie (former bengal DL) but don't know too much about his coaching skills..u?
Alright... now some bad news... new QB coach? Defilippo. I'm not saying he's bad, but he was there to coach Ja-Walruss Russel to be the mess he was. He might be good but he's the coach who's gonna have to prove the most
@Black_Nightmare ... Less great news (than the Saunders situation)! But hopefulle Saunders will be in on the QBs as well (and Palmer who is kind of a coach himself), but for now let's give him a chance to show he is a legit coach - didn't really have too much to work with the last time, so hopefully that was the major downfall back then! We'll see soon enough!
@Black_Nightmare Great news BN!!
I was keeping my fingers crossed that he would be back, so i am very pleased! He has a lot of knowledge about the team and the players which will be valuable when transferring to a new regime! Great news imo!
If were hiring college ranked coaches, maybe we are planning on also getting more knowledge than other teams on college ranked players as well.
Just updating a little: Raiders are showing interest in Jason Tarver. He's co-defensive coordinator at Stanford, replacin Vic Fangio. He sepnt 10 years coaching linebackers at SF. No idea of what scheme he would be running in Oakland (Stanford runs a 3-4 though). Stanford's D kept their opponents scoring really low, only 17.4 points per game. Their opponents managed only to get 3.9 yards per carry, even lower than Pittsburgh's opponents last season. OK, college is just not the same than NFL, but this might be a pretty good hire.
Lets hope they get a real defensive head coach with at least 25/28 years of successful proven formula.
Ok... I hate to bring bad news (specially when they are RUMORS), But I'm really bored right now. I've read a couple of rumors saying Packers already denied permission to Raiders to interview Joe Whitt. May I say this is just a rumor (a very very unofficial one)? Anyway, let's just figure who our DC might be if this happens to be true... I would seek for John Hoke or a college coach.
That's not good news. He seems to be getting rave reviews about his work.
Checking some names at the web, Kirby Smart from the Alabama Crimson tide's been saying he wants a shot to be head coach. I know it's not the same, but being DC at the NFL might be a nice oportunity, he runs a 3-4 pro-style defense that might be very nice to see here at Oakland.
Alright guys, Manusky's not the next Raiders DC. He's with the Colts now. New frontrunner is Donnatell, 49ers secondary coach. I think it'd be a really nice hiring and maybe he could lure here Carlos Rogers (I'm just hopeing, I've read nothing to suggest this). Anyone else have any other favorite for the job? Darren Perry maybe? Someone from the college ranks?
This could almost be a blessing in disguise! I have seen rumors that another Packer coach could be in the mix - Cornerback coach Joe Whitt Jr. McKenzie is believed to have recommended him to Allen to investigate / interview. He is believed to be one of the key reasons behind the development of Tramon Williams. I do like though that McKenzie has left Allen to make the coaching decisions.Williams has also been quoted as saying "Trust me. The guy knows his stuff. He will be a coordinator or a something one day. I don't know exactly when it's going to be, but I think he's definitely going to have one of those upper spots."
I think a coaching staff always works together better when the coach has assembled his staff rather than forced to work with coaches not of his choosing.
@nilbymouth Yes, everything points that way. Since he's been working with GB's cornerbacks I'm not sure what kind of defense he would run here in Oakland, but he seems quite a good prospect.
Thanx 4 the blog...great for fans to see the big picture on the staff happenings...continued success!
If it ain't broke don't fix it???? So you like staying at 8-8? LOL. Hire a good d-coordinator and we'd be fine!
I am so much impressed after seeing your blog.it gives us knowledge so i just wanna say its knowledgeable.
I like the hiring of Hoffman, makes total sense since he worked for Joe DeCamillis back in Atlanta when Allen was over there. I love the team kept Wisniewski. I'm eager to see who's comming on the defensive side. I'm not the biggest fan of Manusky, but I don't see many high profile DC prospects out there and many other teams have been blocking Allen from getting the guy he wants so, I'll expect some unexpected name or someone like Manusky with a mediocre history trying to redeem himself.
All Hoffman needs to do is sort the coverage unit out and this special teams will be unstoppable!
@LeviDamien wow now that I don't like that sucks
@LarryGreen So far has not been released as far as media knows.
@LarryGreen Good as gone, interviewed with Chef to become OC and kick out &^%$ twice a year!
