Earlier today, reports came out that Rolando McClain was present at a crime scene in which there were shots fired in Decatur, Alabama. Now further details have come out that the shooter was indeed Rolando McClain and he has been arrested and faces a number of charges.
The incident occured around 10:20pm on Wednesday night. The charges he is facing are third degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment, and discharging a firearm in city limits. All of these charges are misdemeanors in the state of Alabama.
Allegedly a friend of McClain started the fight (the friend was also arrested for assault), which ended with Rolando holding a gun to the head of the alleged victim. The victim then pleaded for his life, and McClain fired a shot past his ear.
McClain was given permission by the Raiders to be in Alabama to attend his grandfather's funeral. The shooting took place outside the house of a friend of McClain's.
Here is the statement released by the Decatur Police:
"Rolando McClain has been arrested by the Decatur Police Department in connection with an assault which occurred late Wednesday night. The victim in the assault reported that he had been at a residence on Skyview St. SW in Decatur when he got into a fight with another individual, identified as Jerradius Willingham. During the fight, the victim sustained injuries to his head and face. He was bleeding from the nose and mouth when speaking to the responding officers. The victim told officers that following the fight, he crawled to his car. He said that when he reached his car, Rolando McClain produced a pistol and aimed it at him. He said that while he was still on the ground, McClain walked over to him and put the gun to his head. The victim reported that he begged McClain not to shoot him and that McClain took the gun away from his head, held it next to his ear and fired it. Even though the initial report was of "shots" fired, investigators believe this was the only gunshot fired.
"For most misdemeanor offenses, officers can only make an arrest if the offense occurred in their presence. For this reason, officers did not charge McClain or Willingham at the scene. The officers filed a report and informed the victim that he would be contacted by investigators the following morning. After filing a report with the officers, the victim drove himself to the hospital.
"Earlier today, investigators met with the victim and assisted him in obtaining personal warrants for McClain and Willingham. At this time, Rolando McClain has been charged with Assault in the Third Degree, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment, and Discharging a Firearm Inside the City Limits. He is currently being held in the Decatur Jail until his bond of $2,000.00 is paid. Jerradius Willingham has been charged with one count of Assault in the Third Degree and has been released on $500.00 bond."
Earlier this year, McClain was in an incident in which his SUV had shots fired at it. At the time it seemed McClain could have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. This incident suggests that the previous incident may have had much more to do with McClain than was initially thought.
The Raiders will likely be without their middle linebacker for a few games at least. These charges may be misdemeanors in Alabama but the NFL looks at them far more seriously. With the Raiders in the playoff hunt, the loss of McClain could really hurt their already shaky defense.

I was thinking that maybe we could play a little more 3-4 defense if McClain misses some games. I think that might help with his absence. Play Wimbley and Curry on the edge and have like Blackstock and Groves in the middle or maybe even use an extra safety in place of the other ILB.
Maybe use Curry at ILB with Scott on the edge. Moss, if healthy, can rush the edge too.
Rotate Big John and Kelly at NT and rotate Big Rich, Houston, Bryant and Kelly at DE.
Look like someone took "building a bully" a little too far. Hahaha... Seriously though, he's in a privileged situation right now and has to be smart about the surroundings he puts himself into. Risking much more than playing in the NFL, but his and his loved ones lives if guns are involved in the wrong manner.
McClain's attorney Billy C. Burney II said the linebacker denies he fired a gun and said he was not involved in the fight.
"Mr. McClain asserts his innocence," Burney said in a statement. "We are confident that Mr. McClain will be cleared of all charges."
Most likley this will not be resolved until after the season is over. So maybe it won't have such an impact. I am still pissed at him for not even thinking of the possible implications for getting involved in this.
Lame! I'm not buying the victims story either but Rolando should never have put himself in that position. He should not have been all smiles in that photo either, just shows he's not even bothered by the whole thing. I'd be pissed if someone accused me of something I didn't do.
The way I see it, if reports are true... IF... He has shown a complete lack of respect to the Raiders, Raidernation, being completely and utterly selfish & stupid. He did what he did knowing the consequences would be at least a suspension, let alone the strong chance of jail time !(Well in any other state, AL rules are frigging mental) We drafted him #1, pay him a more than handsome wage & he has maybe in the middle of a season, when we are in top spot of the AFC West uses his grand fathers funeral as an excuse to go and finish some personal business.. put our defence in trouble, as we can all see the defence is better with him and the chances of us finishing in top spot have just been made harder!
I can forgive him for not playing to the standard we expect of the the guy who was meant to be the best LB in 2010 draft as I think he can get better with coaching but I can't forgive him for pretty much sticking his middle finger up at us, HJ, Raiders and basically not giving a toss what happens to our team!
As I said before, IF, everything is true! I want him out of Oakland, never to return again!
reports Im reading suggest that he might not actually miss any time at all this season ... unless Gooddell plays heavy .... which he might ... although to do so before an trial would be even more rubbish than he usually is.
Nope. His side can only be one of two things. It's either ALL a BIG LIE in which case all is forgiven or I held a gun to man' head and threatened to kill him. In the latter, case closed. Stay in Alabama among your thug freinds and have fun shootin' the S__T with Russel. The Raiders will recover. There are 52 more men wanting to be more than him. Trade his sorry a$$ to Filthedelphia and let him huddle up with the dog killer. Which reminds me. How's that Plaxico thing workin' for BUF?
Not sure what to say. Heavily disappointed. Hard to really know what happened on Wednesday but what is obvious is that McClain was not thinking. For no reason should a gun ever be brought out unless its life threatening. Im very interested in how the league handles this. Real bad move.
Calm down. This might get him a one game suspension and a hefty fine, that's it. Dude has been the best middle LB we've had in years and you want to dump him over this. Yeah, lets go the rest of the year with Blackstock! What are u nuts. Try and here someone else's side of the story before you jump to conclusions.
he's just okay at MLB. that's sad that he's the best we've had in years. no one will dump him off this team right now. but i do say Hue should bring someone in VIA FA, we don't want this clown ruining our image if all of this is true. LD makes a point about the shootings before... even IF it's not on him and he's in the wrong place at the wrong time, WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT THAT PLACE?! utter stupidity.
You are spot on. Our image is our brand. Our brand is outlaw. Not hoodlum. And the reason we play football is because outside of self defense, sport is the last acceptable use of force. Using deathly force to put your point across to a beaten unarmed man makes me wonder why you're there in the first place. Why would this be necessary and what's next?
@SnBsn69 yea well, that's a good way to live. unfortunately for Rolando, he's just become big headed and think he's god.. what does he have now, 25 mill in the bank from being the #8 overall pick!? just like JaBackFat, he too has become larger than life, he's just much more quiet and weird. regardless, Tatupu is sounding real good right now, at least better than BLACKSTOCK! i think most would agree here...
You know, here's the thing. I put my fam first, then my job. Mostly because the people in each group rely on me. I don't put those things in jeopardy with any connection to anything or anyone illegal. It just isn't that hard. Nobody has EVER said I should be more eciting or adventurous. I spent 20 year in the Department of Defense and I have found no reason to hang with thugs! Why would you?
@SnBsn69 yup exactly ... but still, why wasn't the dude's ear ruptured from the shot? where's the gun? we don't know the facts yet... seems kind of fishy right now. just heard there was no gun recovered. im just talking about if he really did this... all the same, he should stay away from these places.
@DavidGutierrez We'll see what the story ends up being, but Action Jackson seemed satisfied after he had spoken with Death Ro and the police! He is vital to our D, so hopefully it will resolve quickly and he'll be back.. We'll see soon enough!
Flush him. We don't need/want him any where near our success. He's a Judas. Next man up!
BTW he looks like jwalrus in the photo. Sizzup stupid?
Not the kind of news I like to hear. What horrible timing. McClain is just plain stupid, and he could be finished for the year. The league will definitely hand down a suspension and he might not be available until the playoffs or even the following year. Talk about a selfish guy. McClain has let his team and fans down big time.
@Spartacus he doesn't care about the fans... never has since he was drafted. shrugs EVERYONE off including the press. he's acts as HARD as can be, and appreciates nothing. He's not even that good of a player to begin with! we can do better at MLB, i promise you all.
That A-Hole. It is like Barrett Robbins all over again. Right in the middle of the first promising season in a decade, and then one of the guys you really need lets everyone down.
I hope they can manage without him, but his last injury proved that not having him on the field makes a big difference.
@Jososi except Robbins was one of the best in the league... McClain isn't even top 20. it will be a big loss to our defense simply because Hue wasn't smart enough to bring in anyone else capable of playing MLB ....
Granted, he did not live up to expectations,, at least not yet. He is still just a 2nd year player. At the same time, it was noticeable when he was not on the field. I am hoping our success last game had a lot more to do with Wimbley and Curry stepping it up than McClain being back on the field. I have a lot of hope for this year for the first time in many years(well, I always have hope at the beginning of every year, but it was finally looking like it was justiified). If his absence ends up with our D unraveling, I am going to look at this in very similar light as what Robbins did to us. God damn I can't believe the bad luck this team has sometimes.
