As the Oakland Raiders wrapped the open media portion of their organized team activities with a ten year old laying the wood to Darren McFadden, the story was offensive improvement.Darrius Heyward-Bey had his best practice as a pro. After struggling through injuries and drops during last year's offseason practices and last season, Head Coach Tom Cable had said that DHB had been putting in the work to improve. During minicamp he had improved from the year before, but was on fire today catching everything he got his hands on.
The JaMarcus Russell malaise is gone. The passing was sharp and crisp, which was not seen at all during last year's workouts. Jason Campbell continued to show that he is better than the reputation he had earned in Washington.
The offense has looked better than it did at any time last year. It was a non-contact practice, so the defense was limited in how much they could get after the offense, but comparing apples to apples the offense appears to be on an upswing.
Lamarr Houston jumped in on a camp fight again. He has the mean streak that makes a defensive end tick.
A 10 year old Raider fan was present at practice through the make a wish foundation. He was given the opportunity to tackle Darren McFadden as the team cheered him on.
The Raiders have next week off, and OTAs resume the following week.
The Raiders will be holding their annual youth skills camp on June 12th and 13th from 8 am until 3 pm at the Raiders Alameda facility.
The two-day camp is designed to encourage boys and girls to participate in and enjoy the game of football. Demonstrations, step-by-step explanations, and one-on-one attention will provide close instruction in order to substantially improve on each athlete's ability. There will be sessions specific to offense, defense and special teams play. Athletes with all levels of experience are encouraged to participate.
Campers will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility, including a visit to the team locker room, and will be able to obtain autographs from many of their favorite Raiders.
The camp begins on Saturday morning and concludes Sunday afternoon. Each session runs
from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m.
The registration fee includes instruction, camp T-shirt, Raiders gift bag, and lunch on both days.
