The Oakland Raiders will conduct their final OTA on Tuesday away from the eyes of the media. Once that practice session is over, there will be no more official workouts until the team reconvenes on July 28th in Napa for training camp. The Raiders offseason workouts have appeared to be productive and intense. In fact, the practices were so intense the team was sanctioned their final two OTA dates by the NFL for too much contact during non-contact workouts. It was a combination of the NFL Players Association and the NFL that came down on the Raiders for violations of the work rules.
Once the team meets in late July it will be two weeks before the preseason game in the new Cowboys Stadium. So the clock is ticking down for the beginning of football season.
After watching the minicamp and the OTAs, there is a reason to be optimistic. However, it also needs to be tempered with the fact that these are minimal contact workouts in shorts. The lack of contact makes a huge difference, as there isn't pressure on the quarterbacks, nor can the running backs be brought to the ground. By the same token, the linemen can't finish their blocks.
