Raiders destroyed by Jets

New York Jets v Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders were gracious hosts to the New York Jets. On the Raiders first play JaMarcus Russell fumbled the ball inside his own ten and the Jets took over at the four. The game was all downhill from there as the Raiders suffered their most lopsided home loss ever.

JaMarcus Russell was benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski late in the second quarter to the great delight of the smallest Coliseum crowd since the return from LA in 1995. Gradkowski seemed to move the Raiders better than Russell, but he still could not find the end zone, even with a first and goal from the six.

After Russell's fumble, the Raiders seemed to be moving the ball. Russell had connected with Darrius Heyward-Bey for a 24 yard connection, and they hadthe ball near midfield. However, Russell was under pressure and fired a ball off his back foot that was brought down by a Jets defender who didn't have any Raiders around him. Once again, Russell drove the Raiders into Jets territory, this time the ball was intercepted in the end zone.

Cable made the decision to bench Russell after the second interception becuase he wanted to make that change. Cable said, "for the first time I thought he was really out of sorts early in the game. In the first play of the game he could not get the formation lined up the right way, and then they drop into quarters when it should just be a check down to the back, kinda holding it and looking down field and he shouldn't be there. And then the two interceptions, first one, no reason for that and the second one really just kind of threw it up. So I just did not feel like at that point he gave us the best chance to have the success we needed to have offensively and made the move. JaMarcus will continue to be our starter and there is no issue there."

Gradkowski went 10 for 19 for 97 yards and no touchdowns. He was, however, able to make a couple of plays with his feet and scrambling twice for 25 yards. Gradkowski felt that he added a spark, "My energy I bring to the game and the knowledge I bring to the game can add a spark. It was tough out there. We had a couple good drives we put together. We just have to finish on them."

The Raiders didn't fall back to their under 200 total yards rushing ways, but they didn't beat that mark by much. They had 119 yards rushing and 144 yards passing for a total of 263. They could not convert any of those yards into points.

The Raiders defense was overmatched in the running game. The Jets were able to run for over 316 yards with Shonn Green getting 144 on 19 carries and Thomas Jones 121 yards on 26 carries. This was echoes of the presason where backs were demolishing the Raiders right and left.

give Gradkowski a full week of pratice and see what happens. It has to be a big uplift to the rest of the offense to have someone under center that plays like he wants to win. I would like to see what he does with a full game and Russell will not beat the chargers. Give the kid a chance, that's my vote.

I disagree with benching Russell in this game. Any other of the wonderful games we have played he should have been bench, but not this one. For the first time since he became a raider, he had some fire and not just let it go. For the first time he was a cheerleader even when the defense had the ball. The fumble and the first int was clearly not good play, but the second one was him trying to make something happen, not the right through but not bad. The defense was playing great against the run until they pulled Russell, that seemed to take the wind out of the defenses sails and they just seemed not to care anymore. I have been against Russell for most of his career, but if he is finally bringing the fire and trust from at least his defense give him a chance.smilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gif
Where is Garcia again?

Well, well, well...

We stayed the course with fat boy and his lazy ways. We dismissed any real competition between him and a superior (although old and tempermental) rival making sure in the process that he would never return to help. So here we are, Jet slapped, Donkey slapped, Bolt slapped, G-men slapped (and raped), lucky in KC, and holding one legit W from McNabb and Co. at what is it now? 76/103

Richard, I don't see a playoff in your future unless you quit and go elsewhere. I feel sorry for you, I do. DHB, you suck. O-line, you suck as a unit, not just as individuals. Advice to Gallery: Stay hurt, get traded. Aso, I bet you're re-thinking that off season contract you could have gotten anywhere else (you too Shane). Kifffen shut up. You suck too and always did. To the unknowing and talented few new guys pressed into high dollar servitude on this once proud laughing stock ( I count like 9 of you) and Fargas. Hmmph...I don't know what to say. But without the other 44 and coaches you guys are just gonna' suck too. Your level of play will sadly drop to the level of your loser peers as you too lose hope and career opportunities. Here's hoping you got meaningful degrees in college and can move on later in life without permanent psychological damage. Remember once your a loser, it translates to other things just like winning does.

Al, can the Raiduhs really win with JR? Is he really that good? Do his numbers tell you? Oh yeah, the coach you never met told you. No, no...you told him. And what of McInjured? Did your gypsy fortune teller say he would be the answer? Because if she did, you should let her coach. She's a winner!

If there is an extra $80-$100 million to spare (you know) just laying around, can we buy some other broken down POS to QB and/or coach this bunch of poorly coached, poorly led, poorly motivated, wretchedly overpaid, no talent misfits you call Raiders?

I wish you loved this team as much as I do Al. I'll praise them when they deserve it. I'll continue to watch and hope. I'll continue to wear my gear and be ridiculed by everyone who knows that footballs have laces. I'm 50 and fear that I may die before you Mr. Davis and never see a true return to excellence. OMG, I have become you. The only difference is that I can see the problem. It's in your mirror. This just sucks. You know, I shook hands with you Mr Davis in Tokyo when the Raiders played the Packers there in the late 90's. I was so proud and excited. Now I just want to cut that contaminated flesh off my body and send it back. Al you suck. You are the one thing my father taught me to loathe the most, a disappointment(in every respect). And now so are the Raiders. You have ripped me off you sorry old waste of skin...and oh yeah, moving to LA won't help. They've seen your show on TV stupid.smilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gifsmilies/angry.gif
Hot dog anyone?
written by TN Raider, October 26, 2009
This week was almost as bad as the Titans loss to New England last week. Mark Sanchez even had time for a hot dog on the sideline during the game. How do we play so good against a quality team like Philly and so bad against the Jets, who had lost three in a row before the Raiders gift? The game was over in the the first quarter. Russell can't turn the ball over repeatedly and expect to keep playing. This is the most screwed up I've seen any professional team from the owner to the players since Marge Schott owned the Cincinnati Reds. The Raiders are hard to watch on weeks like this one.
