TFDS Predicts: Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers

The Raiders travel to Oakland South to finish off their division games for the 2008 season. As it stands, the Raiders are 2-3 in the division and have the chance to not have a losing record within the division for the first time in six years. The San Diego Chargers don't look to be nearly as invincible as they appeared to be coming into the season.

When the Chargers faced the Raiders in Oakland earlier this season, the Raiders held a 15-3 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter only to ultimately lose 28-18. That was ultimately Lane Kiffin's last along the sidelines for the Raiders, with Tom Cable taking over after the bye week. This is a game that either team can win.

The Oakland Raiders won't win, however. The Raiders proved against the Kansas City Chiefs that they do not know how to win games. Teams that know how to win don't call for odd ball plays like the "Wild Bass" formation that netted the fumble that was returned for a touchdown, when they have the chance to take a lead. Teams that know how to win, don't just wilt and die when facing a team of inferior quality like the Chiefs. The Raiders have the talent to win this game against San Diego, but they will not.

When the Chargers have the ball, they would seem to play right into the strength of the Raiders defense. LaDainian Tomlinson is having an off year, and the Bolts have become much more of a throwing team. With Chris Johnson and Nnamdi Asomugha at corner, the Raiders are well suited toward stopping the pass. Norv Turner will be watching film of Tony Gonzalez's feasting on the Raiders for tips on how to use Antonio Gates. Now, with all that being said, there is the Tomlinson factor. Forget Al Davis, its Tomlinson who owns the Raiders. Nearly every game he plays against the Silver and Black, Tomlinson has an explosion.

When the Raiders have the ball they have to hope that the JaMarcus Russell who shredded the Broncos shows up instead of the Russell who got scalped by the Chiefs. The key to the game will be for the Raiders running backs to produce. However, in order for them to step up as needed, Tom Cable will have to call the right plays for their talents. He did this against Denver, but against Kansas City other than the hook and lateral where Curry caught the ball and pitched it to Darren McFadden, the Raider playbook was quite vanilla. They also need to find a way for Bush to be used more, as he has the talent, but is wasting away on the bench.

The Raiders are just too hit or miss to pull out a win in San Diego. The Raiders have not beaten the Chargers since 2003, and that does not look to be ending this game.

yea, better luck next year.. go into that draft and get a stud wideout, and some quality lineman (a left and right tackle would be nice Al!) then they might start winning games. the chargers are hitting a brick wall.. norv is definetely showing his true colors.. but they will still beat the raiders by 10 once again.
